I am a psychiatric nurse who works in the fields of general psy. and with MICA ( mentally ill chemical abusers) or dual dx patients. I see many patients who are mentally ill and have chemical addictions. Some of these addictions include abuse of cocaine, heroin, crack, and alcohol.
The most important thing I have learned from day one is not to be judgemental. Why? I would never be therapeutic if I was. Rule number 2 is the golden rule. "Do onto others as you would have done onto you." I use this rule when dealing with other staff members as a charge nurse, or as a supervisor.
I like what I do. I have never been addicted ( except to cigarettes ) but I do understand. Compassionate caring that is real is what I stand for.
I have worked in Rochester, NY, New Haven , Ct at Yale , and presently work for Horizon Village which is a 90 day inpatient tx facility.
A poet I am not. What I am is a person who believes you can be whatever you want to be while
you are living and breathing. Just because we have become adults does not mean that we cannot dream
again. Oh, but quite the contrary. We may encounter and endure hardships that in a million years we would not
have guessed them to be in our future. The challenges that occur in life do not have to take over your life. Take
back your life and by doing so you empower yourself as a woman, as a person, as a human being. Put your
destiny in your hands and not someone elses. No one has the right to control or manipulate another person.
This is your day, let us be your encouragers because we believe in you as a valuable member to this
group, to your friends, and most importantly to those who care about you in your family. God bless you.
May your heart grow light with joy as you continue to move toward your goals.
